Dentures are a cost-effective and non-invasive way to replace one or more teeth and remain a popular option. Here at Helix Dentistry, we only use high-quality denture teeth supported by life-like gum-coloured acrylics, creating a natural looking appearance that is very different from the dentures worn by previous generations.
What are the different types of dentures available?
Options include full or complete dentures and partial dentures. Full dentures replace the entire upper or lower arch, or both arches of your natural teeth. Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth in an arch. Full dentures are supported solely by your gums and are carefully constructed to provide maximum retention.
Partial dentures also rest on your gums but are normally held in place with clasps fitting around your existing teeth, or by special attachments fitted onto crowns or bridges. Our partial dentures are often strengthened with the addition of a lightweight cobalt chrome framework, creating a lighter, less bulky dental appliance. If you subsequently lose more teeth, it is sometimes possible to add these teeth to an existing partial denture, depending on the age and condition of the appliance.
How many visits will I need for my new denture?
We take extensive care when designing and making our dentures so you will need more than one visit to Helix Dentistry. First, we will take detailed dental impressions and measurements using a wax bite block or rim. This ensures your denture is made to the correct dimensions, providing the proper support for your facial muscles. Next, the denture is made in wax, so you can try in your new teeth before they are fully made. At this stage, we can easily make any alterations, to get the fit and appearance just right. The final step is to make your proper denture which will be tried and fitted to make sure you feel entirely comfortable with your new teeth. We will need to see you again a week later, in case your denture requires any small adjustments.
